Why Offset Plastic?
OVER 90% OF PLASTIC IS NOT RECYCLED AND ENDS UP IN OUR ECOSYSTEMS
8 MILLION TONNES OF PLASTIC ARE DUMPED INTO THE OCEAN EACH YEAR
A PERSON DIES EVERY 30 SECONDS FROM MISMANAGED WASTE
It's time to take Action.
Our relationship with plastic needs rethinking. Plastics are versatile materials, but the way we use them is wasteful. 90% of plastic is not recycled. Instead it ends up in our ecosystems destroying our natural habitats and impacting human health.
So... what can we do?
The first step is to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic.
But it isn't possible to remove plastic entirely from everyday life.
To tackle our ongoing plastic waste crisis, we need to drive innovation which mobilizes change at a grassroots level. We need to design a socially inclusive circular economy for plastic, in which it doesn't become waste or pollution.
How can offsetting plastic help tackle the plastic crisis?
For every kg of plastic you offset, a kg will be recycled in Uganda. Not only will you have a 1-for-1 impact, but your offset will also catalyse innovation and help build zero waste communities in the geographies that need it most.
The innovation and infrastructure needed to address plastic pollution is severely underfunded. This is particularly the case in developing countries, which are often the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This is why your plastic offset is so important and can provide the critical funding that is needed.
